@CanesMensTennis Hosts BCU in Doubleheader
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis program will continue their 2015 spring campaign this weekend in a doubleheader against Bethune-Cookman on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla.
This weekend’s match-up will be the third meeting between Miami and BCU. The Canes have a 2-0 all-time record against the Wildcats and in the last meeting the Canes came out with a dominant 7-0 victory in January of 2013. The Wildcats enter this weekend with a 1-4 record.
The Hurricanes will be looking to use the momentum gained after last weekend, where the Canes went 1-1 after facing Kennesaw State and No. 48 Pepperdine. The Canes came away with a resounding 7-0 win against Kennesaw State, and later fell in a close dual match against No. 48 Pepperdine, 4-3.
In singles play, No. 75 Piotr Lomacki and seniors Henrique Tsukamoto and Wilfredo Gonzalez lead the way with four singles victories. Freshman Christian Langmo is following closely behind with three victories and fellow freshmen Andrew Harrington and Niclas Genovese each have two singles victories. Lone sophomore Bernard Tefel has one singles victory.
In doubles play, Gonzalez and freshman Kevin Bondar lead the way with an unblemished 5-0 record. Tsukamoto and Lomacki have also found success playing together with an overall record of 6-2. Freshman Nile Clark has two doubles victories, one coming with Harrington and the other with freshman Alexander Fahnehjelm.
After the two home matches, the Canes continue to play at the Schiff in one week when Miami hosts George Washington on Friday, March 6 at 2 p.m. and then will kick off ACC play against Georgia Tech on Sunday, March 8 at 12 p.m.
