ATLANTA – The Miami Hurricanes swimming & diving team wrapped up its trip to the 2015 ACC Championships on a high note Sunday, ending the four-day tournament with a total of 490.50 points.

“What a great meet. We had a lot of great performances, and a lot of fun doing it,” head swimming coach Andy Kershaw said. “The team really came through, and there was a ton of enthusiasm. On the swimming end, we had some lifetime best swims, which was great to see. They’ve been working hard to get to this point from a year ago.”

Sophomore Cameron Davis delivered in one of her signature distance events yet again, finishing the 1650-yard freestyle in 16.36.71. The time was good for 12th place in a loaded field of competition.

“From today’s standpoint, we had some good swims. Cameron’s mile – she’s been here for us all year in distance events, and came through again,” Kershaw said.

Freshman Ksenia Yuskova finished the 100 freestyle in 50.30 seconds, earning Miami points in the “C” final of the event.  Senior Amy Wiley kept Miami’s momentum with a fifth-place finish in the “C” final of the 200 breaststroke.

Sophomore Angela Algee, who has delivered key performances for Miami throughout the season, finished in third in the “C” final of the 200 butterfly (2:00.52).

“Everyone was really determined to work towards this spot, and has put in a lot of work to get here,” Kershaw said. “It felt so rewarding to see it all pay off for them, because I know how many sacrifices they’ve made.”

Miami ended the meet with the second-fastest time in program history in the 400 freestyle relay. Algee, Yuskova, junior captain My Fridell and senior Heather Arseth finished sixth in a time of 3:19.79.

Freshman diver Wally Layland (fourth) and senior Cheyenne Cousineau (seventh) added major points for the Hurricanes, who finished in ninth place. And though they held their spot from last year’s conference championships, with the addition of a powerful Louisville team to the field, Kershaw was excited about the performance.

“One of the teams that beat us last year, Duke, we moved ahead of. That was rewarding to beat a team that’s beat us before,” Kershaw said.

The second-year head coach sees a bright future for a rising program in one of the nation’s best swimming conferences.

“I’m so excited about the future of the program and everything they’ve accomplished this year,” Kershaw said. “All the Canes fans out there can be proud of this group, the way they’ve acted and the way they’ve performed.”
