MTen to Host FGCU and Liberty in Doubleheader
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 71 University of Miami men’s tennis program will continue their 2015 spring campaign this weekend on Saturday Feb. 7 when they host Florida Gulf Coast at 10 a.m. and Liberty at 4 p.m. in a doubleheader at the Neil Schiff Center in Coral Gables, Fla.
The Canes have only met FGCU on one previous occasion, which came in the 2013 spring season, when the Canes ousted the Eagles, 6-1. FGCU comes to Coral Gables with a 3-1 record.
This weekend’s match-up will be the first meeting between Miami and Liberty. Liberty enters this weekend with a 4-1 record.
The young Hurricanes team, which includes seven freshmen, one sophomore and two seniors, will be looking to bounce back after travelling to Waco, Texas, for the ITA Kickoff Weekend where the Canes fell in two tough matches against No. 40 Drake and No. 61 Tulane.
Senior Henrique Tsukamoto leads the squad with three singles victories with freshman No. 56 Piotr Lomacki following closely behind with two victories. Together Tsukamoto and Lomacki have amassed a team-best three doubles victories.
Fellow senior Wilfredo Gonzalez has one singles victory and two doubles victories, one with freshman Christian Langmo and the other with freshman Kevin Bondar. Nile Clark and Alexander Fahnehjelm have a doubles victory this spring and Bernard Tefel has earned one singles win.
After the two home matches, the Canes continue to play at the Schiff the next weekend when Miami hosts Kennesaw State on Friday, Feb. 13 at 12 p.m. and No. 48 Pepperdine on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 12 p.m.
