MTennis at Waco for ITA Kickoff Weekend

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 52 University of Miami men’s tennis team will continue their 2015 spring campaign at the ITA Kickoff Weekend when they take on No. 40 Drake on Saturday Jan. 24 and then will face either No. 6 Baylor or No. 61 Tulane the following day on Jan. 25 at the Hurd Tennis Center at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

Miami is the third seed and will meet second-seeded No. 40 Drake Saturday at 3 p.m. CT, while the top seed No. 6 Baylor will face fourth-seeded No. 61 Tulane, earlier in the day at 12 p.m. CT.

The losers of the first two matches will play each other Sunday in the consolation match at 12 p.m. CT. The winners will square off at 3 p.m. CT, for the right to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago, Ill., from Feb 13-16. More than 60 schools are competing across the nation in this weekend’s ITA tournament to fulfill one of the 15 vacant spots to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

The Hurricanes enter this weekend with a 1-1 record after a pair of dual matches this past weekend when the Canes hosted FAU and UCF. The Canes defeated FAU 5-2 with UM winning five singles matches and one doubles match. The next day, the Hurricanes fell in a close 4-3 loss to No. 70 UCF where the team won two singles matches and two doubles matches.
