@HurricaneTennis Opens Spring Season Friday

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team will begin its spring season this weekend as the Hurricanes are set to host the Miami Spring Invite.

Texas, Utah and Vanderbilt will all be making the trip to Coral Gables for the three-day event at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Play will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16 and will stretch through Sunday.

“Looking forward to playing a lot of tennis this weekend,” Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “Ladies are focused and excited for the spring to begin.  I truly believe this team has a special dynamic. I’m having fun watching them grow stronger as a team with each day.”

All three visitors are ranked in the ITA’s top 50, led by Vanderbilt at No. 11. Texas is No. 22 and Utah comes in at No. 44.

Ranked No. 12 to open the spring, Miami is coming off its ninth consecutive trip to the Sweet 16 and finished the 2014 season also ranked No. 12 in the nation.

Seventh-ranked Stephanie Wagner, a junior from Amberg, Germany, headlines a group of five ranked Hurricanes in singles. Two Miami freshman, Sinead Lohan and Wendy Zhang, place among the top 60, with Lohan No. 39.
