Williams Shines at Medal of Honor Bowl

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Former University of Miami quarterback Ryan Williams threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Damiere Byrd (South Carolina) to spark a 20-0 surge in the second half, lifting the National team to a 26-14 victory over the American squad in the second annual Medal of Honor Bowl Saturday afternoon at Johnson Hagood Stadium.

Williams earned National squad MVP honors after completing 7 of 15 passes for 115 yards and the team’s only offensive touchdown of the game. The hookup with Byrd gave the Nationals the lead for good at 16-14 with 5:02 remaining in the third quarter.

Fellow former Cane Thurston Armbrister also saw action for the National Team and finished the game with one tackle.

Former defensive lineman Olsen Pierre will be the next Hurricane to take the field during the Senior All-Star game season as he will compete in the 2015 NFLPA Bowl on Jan. 17.
