Dickson Named to USTA National Committee
University of Miami assistant men’s tennis coach Mark Dickson has been selected to serve on the USTA Collegiate Varsity Committee for the 2015-2016 term, announced Katrina Adams, incoming President of the United States Tennis Association.
“I am excited about the opportunity to serve the USTA at the national level on the Collegiate Varsity Committee,” said Dickson. “Traditionally, many leaders in the community, education, science, athletics and business have participated in college tennis in the United States and that leadership continues to extend its influence globally. I look forward to working with the committee members to continue providing student-athletes with the experiences and opportunities to develop their leadership skills, contribute to a vibrant campus environment and stay actively involved in service to our communities.”
Dickson was chosen for the role due to his background, skills, experience, competencies, talent and passion that can truly help the USTA and make a difference in the development of tennis.
Dickson and the committee will be charged with promoting the growth of American collegiate varsity tennis and its role as an important pathway for tennis development. In partnership with the ITA, they will generate public support for the well-being and long-term future of American collegiate varsity tennis.
According to the USTA, the Collegiate Varsity Committee plays an important role in giving support, guidance and feedback to the USTA Junior and Collegiate Competition Department regarding collegiate varsity tennis. Perhaps the most important role of the Committee is to help the organization understand that Collegiate Varsity Tennis is not only an integral part of the player development pathway (10 & Under to Junior to College to Professional) but also is central to growing future champions off the court. The lessons learned competing in intercollegiate athletics, and particularly in an individual sport like tennis, provide the tools for living a successful life of leadership and contribution. The Committee will help the organization put its footprint on college varsity tennis.
