Perryman, Walford Named AP All-Americans

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Senior linebacker Denzel Perryman and senior tight end Clive Walford were among those recognized with third-team All-America honors from the Associated Press, it was announced Tuesday.

Perryman, who was a finalist for the Butkus Award honoring the top linebacker in the country, earned the recognition following another impressive season where he led the team in tackles (102) and tackles for loss (8.5). His 343 career tackles rank among Miami’s top 10 all-time marks.

The Coral Gables HS alum, who was also recognized with All-ACC first-team honors by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ASCMA) and ACC coaches, earned second-team All-America recognition from CBSSports.com on Dec. 11.

A finalist for the Mackey Award honoring the nation’s top tight end, Walford eclipsed the top career totals of any Hurricane tight end in program history after another standout campaign. Walford caught 44 passes for 676 yards with seven touchdowns in his final season, earning All-ACC second-team honors from ASCMA and ACC coaches.

The Belle Glade, Fla., native’s career marks of 121 receptions, 1,753 receiving yards and 14 receiving touchdowns are the best of any Miami tight end ever.

Perryman and Walford became Miami’s first AP All-Americans since Kenny Phillips was recognized with third-team honors in 2007.
