Twelve Hurricanes Named All-ACC by ACSMA
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Headlined by first-team selections Duke Johnson and Denzel Perryman, 12 Miami Hurricanes were named to the 2014 All-ACC football teams released Monday by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ASCMA).
Johnson, who became the school’s all-time leading rusher Saturday night, was named to the All-ACC first team. Wide receiver Phillip Dorsett, tight end Clive Walford and offensive lineman Ereck Flowers earned All-ACC second-team recognition, while quarterback Brad Kaaya and offensive linemen Jon Feliciano and Shane McDermott earned third-team spots on the offensive side of the ball.
Perryman, who led Miami with 105 tackles this season, was recognized with first-team honors from the ASCMA. Joining Perryman on the defensive side were Honorable Mention All-ASCMA selections Anthony Chickillo, Olsen Pierre and Deon Bush. Punter Justin Vogel earned third-team recognition.
Johnson passed Ottis Anderson as the school’s all-time leading rusher against Pittsburgh, and now has 3,387 yards across his three-year career. Walford, a Mackey Award finalist as the top tight end the country, has more receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns than any tight end in Miami’s storied history at the position. Dorsett is one of just seven receivers to pass 2,000 career yards with the Hurricanes, and leads Miami with 826 yards and nine receiving touchdowns this season.
Feliciano, Flowers and McDermott have served as mainstays on an offensive line that has powered the Hurricanes to 431.0 yards per game and 29.9 points per game this season. True freshman quarterback Brad Kaaya delivered one of the best seasons in program history, recording 2,962 passing yards and 25 passing touchdowns.
Perryman ranks among the top 10 all-time leading tacklers in Miami history, with 343 stops over his four seasons. Chickillo and Pierre have each started all 12 games this season, and have combined for 69 tackles and 6.0 tackles for loss. Bush, who missed the last two games of the regular season due to injury, recorded a career-best total of 48 tackles with two interceptions.
