The Game
Miami travels to Gainesville, Fla., to face the No. 7 Florida Gators on Monday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m., as part of the ESPN Tip-Off Marathon.

The Series
Miami is 22-45 in the series against Florida, which dates back to the 1927-28 season. The Hurricanes are 16-15 against the Gators at home, 6-29 on the road, and 0-1 at neutral sites. Since the rebirth of UM basketball in 1985, Miami is 2-9 against UF. Miami lost the last match up against Florida, 74-60, on March 20, 2009 in Gainesville. The Canes’ last win over the Gators was Dec. 4, 2004, a 72-65 victory in Gainesville.

Rivalry Renewed
For the first time since 2009, the Miami Hurricanes and Florida Gators will meet on the hardwood as both schools have agreed to a home-and-home men’s basketball series. Florida will host the first game Nov. 17, while Miami will host the return game at BankUnited Center during the 2015-16 season.
Florida leads the all-time series 45-22. November’s nonconference matchup will be the first meeting since March 20, 2009 – a 74-60 loss at Florida in the second round of the NIT. The Canes haven’t hosted the Gators since Dec. 22, 2005 – a 77-67 Florida win. Miami last defeated Florida on Dec. 4, 2004, a 72-65 win in Gainesville.

Canes vs. Gators on College Hoops Tip Off Marathon
This highly-anticipated matchup between Miami and Florida is part of ESPN’s 24-hour College Hoops Tip Off Marathon. Miami last played in the Tip Off Marathon on Nov. 16, 2010, when the Canes were defeated, 72-68, by No. 19 Memphis at FedExForum. Durand Scott, Malcolm Grant and Reggie Johnson combined for 50 of Miami’s 68 points in the game that tipped off at 11 p.m.

Road Warriors
On Nov. 16, Miami started an 11-day roadtrip that will see the Canes play five games in nine days in three states. After an in-state matchup with Florida, Miami will play three games in the Charleston (S.C.) Classic, then wrap up the road swing with a Nov. 25 matchup against Charlotte.

Canes Receiving Vote in Preseason Poll
Miami is receiving a vote in the USA TODAY Sports Top 25 men’s basketball preseason coaches’ poll. Miami will face off six teams in the top 25, including five in the top 10: Duke (No. 3), North Carolina (No. 6), Florida (No. 7), Virginia (No. 8) and Louisville (No. 9).
In addition to a ranked Syracuse team (No. 24), Miami has five other opponents receiving votes on its 2014-15 schedule: Pittsburgh, Providence, Notre Dame, Illinois and Florida State.

Rodriguez on Cousy Watch List
Junior PG Angel Rodriguez is one of 36 players listed on the watch list for the 2015 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award.

Seasons of Change
Miami faces back-to-back seasons with roster turnover after losing six players from the 2012-13 ACC Championship season – five to graduation, one to NBA – then six seniors (5 scholarship) after the 2013-14 campaign.

Anthony Lawrence, Jr. Signs NLI with Canes
Anthony Lawrence, Jr. has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the University of Miami.
Nicknamed “Amp,” Lawrence is a 6-7, 200-pound guard/forward from Saint Petersburg, Fla., who led his Lakewood Senior High School team to the Class 5A state championship game as a junior. Lawrence scored 18 points in the championship game and totaled 25 rebounds in two state tournament games.
Lawrence averaged 20 points and 13 rebounds as a junior at Lakewood, and in his sophomore campaign, averaged 21 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
Listed as a four-star recruit by ESPN, the long wing can finish on the break or knock down the three. He brings a complete game to the Hurricanes with the ability to handle the ball, pass, shoot, rebound and play defense with great intensity.
Lawrence, who played AAU ball for Each 1 Teach 1 Elite, chose Miami over offers from USC, Clemson and Texas, among others.
Anthony’s father, Anthony Lawrence Sr. was a two-year letterman at Miami from 1991-93. After college, he played overseas in Portugal, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. His brother, Patrick, also played at Miami from 1991-94.

Cane Strong: UMBB in the Weight Room
Five Canes bench at least 300 pounds and eight bench press more than 250 pounds. Joe Thomas leads the way at 375, followed by Deandre Burnett (315), who is up 85 pounds since arriving at UM. Also in the 300-club are Angel Rodriguez (300/+60), Manu Lecomte (300/+85) and Mike Fernandez (300/+95).
