Two Canes to Compete in USTA/ITA Indoors

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami junior Stephanie Wagner and senior Lina Lileikite will be competing in the 2014 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Columbia University at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing N.Y., from Nov. 6-9.

Wagner will be looking to continue her strong season in the Singles Main Draw as she faces Jessica Wacnik from Boston College in the Round of 32. Entering the match Wagner has a 15-3 record. Play will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

“Stephanie is always a top competitor at these events and she can do some real damage in the tournament,” head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said.

Wagner will then team up with Lileikite in the Doubles Main Draw. Lileikite and Wagner have found success playing together so far this season with an 11-3 record. Lileikite and Wagner will face the duo of Emina Bektas and Alex Najarian from Michigan. Their match will begin at 4 p.m.

“National Indoors is one of the biggest events for individuals in college tennis,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “Lina and Stephanie have been playing great as a doubles team and are hoping to continue that play this weekend . . . They need to have quick, aggressive starts inside and define their styles early.”

Live score updates will be available at the official ITA event page.

The USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships serves as the culmination of the fall college tennis season. The event features a 32-player singles draw and a 20-team doubles draw for both men and women. Twenty schools are represented in the women’s singles draw.
