Swimming Continues Strong Start at A-F Invite
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Miami continued its strong start to the season Saturday at the Pinch A Penny All Florida Invitational.
Sophomore Cameron Davis earned a berth in the night’s “A” final of the 400 IM after posting a time of 4:40.62 in the morning preliminaries. Junior captain My Fridell and sophomore Angela Algee kept momentum going by touching the wall in times of 56.61 and 56.50 respectively, both earning spots in the “A” final of the 100 butterfly.
“The women really did a great job of racing in both sessions today,” head coach Andy Kershaw said. “In the morning they fought for good seeds in the finals, and tonight they took advantage of the opportunities that they earned.”
Heather Arseth also earned a seed in the “B” final of the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.27 in prelims.
Two freshmen made their impact felt in the 200 freestyle, as Rebeka Repman qualified for the “B” final with a preliminary time of 1:56.52. Julie Suarez posted a time of 1:54.34 – good for a spot in the “A” final of the same event. Davis earned a spot in the “B” final with a time of 1:56.48.
Three Hurricanes had spots in the night’s final in the 100 backstroke: Suarez (58.95) and Algee (59.91) in the “B” final, and Arseth (56.99) in the “A” final.
“I’m very happy with how well they are doing at swimming multiple races per session. That’s a testament to the hard work they are putting in daily.”
IN the night’s finals, Miami’s A” entry in the 200 medley relay took eight place in a time of 1:45.97. An eighth-place finish from Davis in the 400 IM (4:39.26) added points for Miami, while Algee and Fridell took fourth and sixth in the 100 fly.
Suarez finished eighth in the 200 free “A” final (1:55.00) and Repman took fifth in the “B” final (1:55.23).
The Hurricanes, who are in 5th place with 270 points after two days of action, will wrap up the All-Florida Invitational Sunday.
