Cross Country Set for Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The University of Miami cross country team heads to Pennsylvania to compete in the Paul Short Run.

Miami will have 12 student-athletes competing in the Gold races this weekend. Six men will run the Gold 8K beginning at 11 a.m., while six women are set to compete in the Gold 6K at 11:45 a.m. The Paul Short Run is held at the Lehigh Cross Country Course. 44 teams will compete in the men’s Gold race, while 41 colleges are set to run the women’s Gold race.

“This field is high in quality and depth for both genders,” Miami distance coach Damon Griffiths said. “It is a chance to pin their ears back and just compete. This meet will be the final major test heading into the ACC Championship.”

The men’s team will look to seniors Douglas Dourado, JaCee Jarnagin and AJ Ricketts to provide leadership this weekend. Dourado has been Miami’s top finisher twice, winning the FAU Invitational and crossing the finish first among Hurricanes at the Mountain Dew Invitational. Ricketts was the leader of the pack at the USF Invitational, while Jarnagin ranks seventh on the all-time men’s 10K list at Miami.

Miami’s women welcome back Gabrielle Hesslau after the sophomore did not compete at the Mountain Dew Invitational. Hesslau has been Miami’s top runner on the women’s side, winning the FAU Invitational and leading the team at the USF Invitational. Freshman Mulloy Manning has consistently been near the front of Miami’s pack, while sophomore Frida Carlsson and senior Julia Koch bolster the women’s team heading into the weekend.

Men’s Entries: Douglas Dourado, JaCee Jarnagin, AJ Ricketts, Kevin Marsh, Jon Keller, Sean Grossman

Following the Paul Short Run, Miami will train in preparation for the Westminster Academy Invitational on Oct. 25, the Canes’ final race before the ACC Championships on Oct. 31.
