Rookie Lomacki Moves to Third Round at ITA

TULSA, Okla. – Freshman Piotr Lomacki won his second round match today in a difficult three-set match at the Saint Francis ITA Men’s All-American Championships hosted by the University of Tulsa.

“Piotr got a lead early and was able to close out the first set quickly,” said head coach Mario Rincon. “He didn’t play a good second set, but was able to gather himself in the third.”

Lomacki, the lone Hurricane at the tournament, won in tough three-set battle against senior Alejandro Espejo from host University of Tulsa. Lomacki started the match of well winning his first set, but struggled in the second, and was able to come back winning the match, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.

“Piotr hit a great return to win the match today,” added coach Rincon. “He positioned himself where he had to on match point, and hit a backhand return winner down the line of a very high kick serve. He’s an aggressive player that likes to go for his shots.”

Lomacki will now face the junior and 11th seed, Bruno Semenzato from Duke in the third round. The match will take place Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
