W. Tennis Opens Fall at Duke Fab Four Invite
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Six Miami women’s tennis players will get their fall seasons under way this weekend at the Duke Fab Four Invite in Cary, N.C.
Hurricane freshmen Silvia Fuentes, Wendy Zhang and Sinead Lohan will join veterans Monique Albuquerque, Clementina Riobueno and Stephanie Wagner in an individual style singles and doubles tournament against players from Ole Miss, Duke, Oklahoma State, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Furman and San Jose State.
In singles action beginning Friday, Fuentes will take on Stefani Stojic of Florida, Riobueno will play Duke’s Maggie Kane, Zhang will face 47th-ranked Kelsey Laurente of Oklahoma State, No. 18 Wagner will play Duke’s Rebecca Smaller, Albuquerque will battle Oklahoma State’s Katarina Adamovic and Lohan will face UNC’s Cassandra Vazquez.
On the doubles side, top-seeded and third-ranked Albuquerque and Riobueno will open up play against Natalia Maynetto and Danielle Spielman of Alabama. Freshmen Fuentes and Zhang will partner together this weekend and will face Florida’s Kourtney Keegan and Josie Kuhlman at 10 a.m., while Wagner will team up with newcomer Lohan to take on Vazquez and Marika Akkerman from UNC.
The format of the tournament will be two rounds of doubles and one round of singles on Friday, two rounds of singles and one round of doubles on Saturday, and one final round of singles on Sunday.
