Hurricane Club Eclipses Record 7,000 Members

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami’s Hurricane Club has set a new membership record, eclipsing more than 7,000 active members for the 2014 calendar year. This represents a more than 55 percent growth in active membership since 2010.

“On behalf of our student-athletes, our dedicated coaches and administration, I want to thank each and every Hurricane Club Member for their generous and unconditional support of our program,” Miami AD Blake James said. “To reach an all time member record is a huge milestone for our University and will provide much needed resources to allow our student-athletes to be Champions in the classroom, competition and life.”

The more than 7,000 Hurricane Club members helped UM Athletics reach its fiscal year goal of $9.8 million in support for the Student-Athlete Excellence Fund, which helps provide scholarship and operational funding for more than 400+ current student-athletes. The Hurricane Club is also within striking distance of its third goal of 2014 which is to hit 7,500 Hurricane Club Members by year end.

“Locally and nationally dedicated Hurricanes Fans are raising their hands and choosing to invest their philanthropic dollars to support UM student-athletes,” Miami Associate AD Jesse Marks said. “Thank you to all of our Hurricane Club Members for their generous support of University of Miami Athletics. We welcome all Hurricanes Fans who are not members to join today and help us in Building Champions at THE U.”
