@CanesRowing Earns 2014 CRCA Awards
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Seven members of the University of Miami rowing program were among the 2014 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) honorees.
Breanna Hayton was named to the 2014 CRCA South All-Region second team. The senior earned All-Region honors for the second consecutive year, adding another honor to her long list of accomplishments.
“Breanna is incredibly deserving of this award,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “Her tireless effort and positive attitude are a constant force on the team and in the classroom.”
Nominated student-athletes for the All-Region teams are evaluated on the strength of their team’s regional finish, coaches’ recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams’ varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season.
A 2014 All-ACC second-team selection, Hayton was a key part of most of Miami’s best boats during the 2013-14 season. The senior helped Miami win the Championship 8+ and the Women’s Open 8+, as well as finish second in the Championship 4+, at the 2013 Head of the Hooch. The Victoria, B.C., native also helped the Hurricanes 1V8+ beat UConn and earn two victories at the UCF Invitational.
Hayton was also one of seven Canes named a 2014 CRCA Scholar Athlete, joining Sarah Aschebrock, Lindsay Bouchacourt, Frida Carlsson, Caitlin Lowe, Hannah Meister and Jaimie Snelgrove.
“Our scholar athletes deserve a big congratulations,” Sanderson said. “We are all very proud of their outstanding academic achievements.”
All student-athletes who were named a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete maintained a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and participated in at least 75% of races at the varsity level (1V, 2V, 4V).
