Two @HurricaneTennis Players Set to Graduate
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Two Miami Hurricanes women’s tennis players—Monique Albuquerque and Brittany Dubins—are scheduled to take part in the University of Miami Commencement ceremonies this weekend.
A four-year member of the women’s tennis team, Dubins has contributed wins in the team’s three straight runs to the NCAA Elite Eight. Graduating this week with a degree in economics and a minor in psychology, Dubins has posted 47 singles wins in her career and has compiled a 7-3 record this season in doubles with Stephanie Wagner.
Albuquerque has been a model student-athlete for the Hurricanes in her two seasons. Though she is a junior eligibility-wise, Albuquerque will have earned her degree in just three years at Miami when she walks across the stage this week. A native of Porto Alegre, Brazil, Albuquerque was recently selected for the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges for 2014, an honor recognizing her academic achievement, service to the University, leadership, citizenship, and accomplishments. Albuquerque has shined on the court and in the classroom in her time as a Hurricane, helping lead Miami to its first ACC Championship last season while earning a spot on the ACC Academic Honor Roll. An economics major, Albuquerque has made multiple appearances on the Athletic Director Honor Roll (GPA of 3.2 or higher), the Dean’s List (3.5 GPA), Provost’s Honor Roll (3.75) and the President’s Honor Roll (4.0 GPA). She was inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society in October 2013.
Fellow senior Melissa Bolivar is scheduled to complete degrees in international finance and marketing with a minor in economics this December. Collectively, the three seniors have known nothing but postseason success. Bolivar and Dubins have reached the Elite Eight in each of their three seasons, and in her first season as a Hurricane, Albuquerque contributed to Miami’s 2013 championship.
Both Dubins and Albuquerque will participate in the graduate portion of the ceremonies on Thursday to accommodate Miami’s NCAA first-round match against Boston University on Friday. The Hurricanes are hosting the first and second rounds of the NCAA tournament for the 10th consecutive year, and look to advance to the NCAA Round of 16 for the ninth straight season.
