Golf Heads to Oklahoma for Central Regional

STILLWATER, Okla. – The 28th-ranked Miami Hurricanes women’s golf team, making back-to-back NCAA postseason appearances for the first time since in nine years, travels to the Sooner State for the 2014 NCAA Central Regional.

The 54-hole NCAA Central Regional tournament, hosted by Oklahoma State, will be played Thursday-Saturday at the par-72, 6,200-yard course at Karsten Creek Golf Club. The low eight teams and the low two individuals not on an advancing team will move on to the 33rd annual NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship, which will be held May 20-23 at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

Miami, one of 24 teams selected to the NCAA Central Regional, is making its 21st NCAA postseason appearance and 33rd overall postseason trip in program history. In 2013, the Hurricanes made their first postseason trip in eight years, finishing 21st at the NCAA West Regional in Stanford, Calif.

Miami, a 10 seed, is one of only two ACC schools playing in the Sooner State, joining eight-seeded North Carolina. The NCAA Central Regional field also includes six automatic qualifiers that won their respective conference championships – Kent State (Mid-American), Harvard (Ivy League), Lamar (Southland), Wichita State (Missouri Valley), LIU-Brooklyn (Northeast) and Siena (MAAC).

Led by All-ACC golfer Daniela Darquea, Miami’s lineup includes junior Rika Park, sophomores Christina Ocampo and Kailey Walsh, and freshman Delfina Acosta.

Darquea leads the Hurricanes with a 73.04 scoring average through 26 rounds and seven top-25 finishes. Walsh ranks third on the team with a 74.62 scoring average, while Acosta (75.00) and Park (75.89) rank fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Hurricanes’ quest for the NCAA Championship begins Thursday. Miami – along with Mississippi State and Cal – will tee off at 8:30 a.m. ET from the No. 10 tee. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstatresults.com.
