Canes Jump to No. 39 in ITA Poll; Aly No. 92

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team jumped to No. 39 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released Tuesday, March 25, while senior Omar Aly has been ranked No. 92 as an individual.

The Hurricanes, who were No. 72 in last week’s poll, defeated No. 18 Wake Forest and No. 31 NC State last week to make the leap. Miami has now downed three ranked ACC teams, including No. 52 Georgia Tech. The last time Miami men’s tennis was ranked in the Top 30 was the week of Feb. 21, 2012, when the Canes were No. 36. UM started that year No. 31 and ended that season No. 69 in the ITA polls.

Senior Omar Aly is 12-3 this spring with a 7-2 mark in the top spot. Against Wake Forest, Aly defeated No. 20 Romain Bogaerts, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) to earn the fourth point and get the team victory.

The Canes are currently riding a seven-match winning streak and have won 10 of their last 11 outings after defeating the University of Nebraska Omaha, 7-0, on Tuesday.

Miami hits the road for a pair of ACC matches this weekend, facing No. 4 Virginia on Friday at 3 p.m. and No. 54 Virginia Tech on Sunday at 12 p.m.
