No. 72 Men's Tennis Takes on UNO Tuesday
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 72 University of Miami men’s tennis team will host the University of Nebraska Omaha Tuesday in Coral Gables at 3 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Miami, which has won six-straight matches and nine-of-the-last-10, put up two great performances this past weekend, overcoming No. 18 Wake Forest, 4-3, and posting a come-from-behind vicotry over No. 31 NC State, 4-3.
The win over NC State marked the third-straight victory over a Top 60 team and second-straight over a Top 35 squad. It also marked the first time the Hurricanes have defeated two-straight Top 35 ranked teams since March 20 and 22, 2009. The then-No. 45 Hurricanes downed No. 34 North Carolina 4-3 and No. 28 Duke 4-3 – both on the road.
Senior Omar Aly shined on Friday against No. 18 Wake Forest, defeating No. 20 Romain Bogaerts, 6-3, 7-6 (5) to give Miami the team victory. This was singles win number 12 for Aly this spring.
Senior Diego Soto secured the win for the Hurricanes Sunday against No. 31 NC State, defeating opponent Sean Weber in the third set, 7-6 (11-9), 3-6, 6-1. This match increased Soto’s season singles wins to 13.
The UNO Mavericks will extend their road schedule to eight matches when they arrive in Coral Gables. They currently have a 4-8 2014 spring season record and have suffered five-straight losses.
