No. 13 W. Tennis Returns to ACC Play
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 13th-ranked Miami Hurricanes women’s tennis team gets back to ACC action this weekend when it hosts conference newcomer Syracuse at 11 a.m. on Friday and travels to Wake Forest on Sunday.
Currently on an eight-match winning streak, Miami (12-2, 6-0 ACC) has taken on a two-match break from ACC play where they picked up wins against No. 17 Baylor and Princeton.
With four players currently on match win streaks of seven matches or longer, the Hurricanes are ready to get back into ACC play. Monique Albuquerque and No. 61 Stephanie Wagner lead Miami with 13 singles wins this season.
In doubles, the Hurricanes have remained dominant, dropping just seven doubles matches this entire spring. One-doubles team Albuquerque and Clementina Riobueno hasn’t missed a step, boasting a 14-1 record and current ranking of No. 14 in the nation.
The No. 67 Orange enters the dual match with the Canes Friday with a 2-8 overall record and 1-3 in ACC play. Syracuse is coming off wins against 25th-ranked Florida State and No. 48 Virginia Tech, but has dropped four of its last six overall.
Wake Forest is the last team to appear in this week’s ITA women’s rankings at No. 75. With a 9-6 overall record and 1-5 in the ACC, the Demon Deacons have lost five of their last six. Their lone win the conference play was a 4-3 home win against the Pitt Panthers on Feb. 23.
Friday’s match against Syracuse will get underway at 11 a.m., and Sunday’s match in Winston-Salem, N.C., will begin at 12 p.m.
