Baseball Climbs to No. 13 in Latest BA Poll
DURHAM, N.C. — The Miami Hurricanes climbed three spots in the newest Baseball America top 25 rankings released Monday, jumping to No. 13 in the weekly poll and matching their highest ranking from the publication since April 9, 2012.
Miami used a perfect 5-0 week, including a sweep of visiting Boston College in the opening ACC series for both teams, to vault up the rankings. The sweep was the first of 2014 for the Hurricanes, who did not record an ACC sweep in 2013.
Beginning with Javi Salas’ perfect game Tuesday against Villanova, Miami starters allowed just four runs in 34.1 combined innings this week (1.05 ERA). The Hurricanes will carry a five-game winning streak – their largest since a 10-game stretch to open the 2013 season – into Tuesday’s matchup with Bethune-Cookman (6 p.m.).
Miami, one of six teams from the ACC ranked in Baseball America‘s weekly top 25, sits alone atop the Coastal Division at 10-5 overall and 3-0 ACC. The Hurricanes join Florida State (No. 2), Virginia (No. 3), NC State (No. 5), Clemson (No. 14) and North Carolina (19) in the weekly rankings.
The Hurricanes also climbed three spots in the latest Perfect Game rankings (No. 17 from No. 20) and two spots in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper‘s weekly poll (No. 18 from No. 20).
