Rowing Ready for Scrimmage vs. Michigan
TAMPA, Fla. — The University of Miami rowing program is set to begin its 2014 spring season this weekend with a scrimmage against the University of Michigan.
The Canes and Wolverines will hit the water on Saturday, March 8, in Tampa, Fla. All Miami rowers will participate in the scrimmage, as the Canes will run a 1V8+, a 2V8+ and two V4+ boats against the Wolverines.
“We have been having productive practices on land and water with good internal competition, but the athletes are all looking forward to competing against an outside opponent.” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “Everyone is excited to race.”
Saturday’s scrimmage will give the Hurricanes a chance to get on the water against another school as they get ready for their first official race of the 2014 championship season. Miami will host UConn at the Ronald W. Shane Watersports Center on March 21.
Following their home regatta against UConn, the Hurricanes will travel to California to compete in the prestigious San Diego Crew Classic.
Miami’s 1V8+ will compete for the Jessop-Whittier Cup at the 2014 San Diego Crew Classic, while 2V8+ will look to bring home the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy.
The Hurricanes will also race at the Tiger Invitational (April 19-20) in Clemson, S.C., and in Orlando, Fla., against UCF, Tulsa and Old Dominion (April 27). Both regattas will help Miami’s final preparations before the ACC Championships on May 17.
