Men's Tennis Reels in No. 6 Recruiting Class
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team has signed the sixth-best recruiting class in the country for the fall of 2014, as ranked by the Tennis Recruiting Network. Included in the panel of voters are national tournament directors, members of the media and other experts.
With two first place votes, the Hurricanes are one of only four teams that received a first-place vote.
“We are proud to attract this type of talent to the University of Miami,” said head coach Mario Rincon. “We will have a deep team with high expectations, and they will continue to improve until it is time for them to join our team in August.”
Miami’s recruiting class includes homegrown talent and international commitments, including Christian Langmo, Piotr Lomacki and Alexander Fahnehjelm.
Christian Langmo is a blue chip recruit from Boca Raton, Fla., who won the USTA Regionals Plaza Cup. He was a finalist at the 2013 Daytona Beach International Tennis Federation (ITF) and a quarterfinalist at the 2013 South Carolina ITF. He chose Miami over interest from Florida and Georgia Tech.
Piotr Lomacki, from Poland, is currently ranked No. 1292 in the ATP ranking and No. 126 on the ITF juniors world ranking. In 2013, he won the Ozerov Cup in Russia and was a quarterfinalist at the Great Britain Future in October.
Alexander Fahnehjelm comes to Coral Gables from Sweden where he was the No. 6 junior player in the country. He won the 2013 doubles at Bytom, Poland ITF and was a finalist in doubles in Hillegom, Netherlands ITF 2013.
“This group joining us in the fall has the character, competitiveness, work ethic and leadership skills to continue the legacy that our current and previous student-athletes have established,” said assistant coach Mark Dickson. “Our program is attracting many of the most highly recruited student-athletes and building momentum on its way back to the top of collegiate tennis.”
This No. 6 recruiting class is Miami’s first top-10 rated class by the Tennis Recruiting Network since an eighth-best ranking in 2010.
“It is exciting for our program to be recognized for having one of the best recruiting classes in the country,” Rincon said.
The top five recruiting classes are Stanford, South Carolina, Kentucky, Duke and Alabama.
