No. 13 @CanesBaseball Opens Spring Practice
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami baseball team will officially open spring practice Friday in preparation for its 2014 campaign. The team’s first practice at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field will begin at 2:30 p.m, with an intrasquad scrimmage beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Saturday’s intrasquad scrimmage will begin at 2:30 p.m. All practices are free and open to the public.
The Hurricanes’ 2014 regular season commences on Feb. 14, when Maine arrives at The Light for a three-game series. Miami will play 13 of its first 16 regular season games at home, including weekend sets with the Black Bears (Feb. 14-16), rival Florida (Feb. 21-23) and ACC foe Boston College (March 7-9). Preseason events gearing up for Opening Day include the annual First Pitch Banquet (Thur., Feb. 6), and the Old Timers and Alumni Games (Sat., Feb. 8).
The 2014 First Pitch Banquet will feature a keynote address from former World Series MVP and four-time MLB All-Star Mike Lowell. In addition to Lowell’s address, there will be an auction featuring memorabilia and other Hurricanes merchandise, a presentation by head coach Jim Morris and a multi-course dinner. The reception for the event, to be held at the Mariott Miami Dadeland, begins at 6 p.m.

The team’s annual Fan Fest, including the Old Timers and Alumni Games, will take place Feb. 8 at The Light. Pregame festivities will begin at 3 p.m., including an autograph session with players and coaches, inflatables and face painting for children, and more.
