@CanesRowing Excels in Classroom
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami rowing team had 24 student-athletes earn academic distinction for their stellar performance in the classroom during the 2013 fall semester.
The Hurricanes had one rower achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA and earn a place on the President’s Honor Roll. Miami rowing also had four student-athletes qualify for the Provost’s Honor Roll (3.75+) and 12 earn Dean’s List (3.5+). 20 rowers met the 3.2 GPA requirement for the Athletic Director Honor Roll and 24 rowing student-athletes were named Book Busters (3.0+).
“The team had some great results in the classroom last term,” Miami head rowing coach Dave Sanderson said. “Working hard to be a strong athlete and a strong student is part of the culture here and I am very proud of them for their academic achievements.”
Freshman Elise Clark was Miami’s most accomplished rower academically, earning a 4.0 GPA in her first collegiate semester. The biology major is continuing her academic success after being named valedictorian at Port Charlotte High School in her hometown of Port Charlotte, Fla.
Caitlin Lowe, Zoey Neudeck and Molly Shannon were also exemplary student-athletes in the fall, earning spots on the Provost’s Honor Roll. Lowe, a sophomore from Alexandra, New Zealand, is majoring in exercise physiology. Neudeck, a sophomore from Vero Beach, Fla., is a biomedical engineering major. Shannon, a freshman from Long Valley, N.J., is majoring in physical therapy.
