Monday ProCanes Report: Moss Reaches 10,000
The Monday Morning #ProCanes report will weed through all the NFL highlights and news to bring you the information you care about the most… what the former University of Miami Hurricanes did during the week prior. Veteran wide receiver Santana Moss accomplished something Sunday that only three other #ProCanes have ever managed – 10,000 career receiving yards. A 28-yard catch in the fourth quarter saw him officially eclipse the career milestone, as Moss became the 40th player ever and the fourth Miami Hurricane to achieve the feat. With 10,005 yards, Moss joins fellow veterans Reggie Wayne (13,566) and Andre Johnson (12,220), as well as NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin (11,904), in an all-time group of elite wide receivers. Congratulations, Santana!
Andre Johnson (Houston Texans) – 10 catches, 116 yards
Houston suffered a disappointing 28-23 defeat to Oakland, but Pro Bowler Andre Johnson delivered another standout performance for the Texans. The 11th year wide receiver recorded his 19th career 10 catch/100-yard receiving, the most ever by a wide receiver in league history. With his fourth 100-yard receiving game of the season, Johnson remained in fourth place among all pass-catchers with 966 receiving yards this season. He is just 34 yards away from his seventh career 1,000-yard season, and just the third time he has done so in back-to-back seasons.

Jon Beason (New York Giants) – eight tackles, one interception
Things were looking bleak in New York after an 0-6 start, but the addition of one veteran linebacker has helped turn things around for the Giants. Jon Beason had another standout performance for New York in a big 27-13 win over banged up Green Bay – New York’s fourth straight victory. Beason totaled eight tackles and his tenth career interception in the victory, powering the New York defense to a three-turnover performance, including an interception from fellow #ProCane Antrel Rolle. The seventh-year linebacker has 36 tackles in five games with the G-Men.

Santana Moss (Washington Redskins) – two catches, 41 yards
Though his numbers were by no means eye-popping, veteran wide receiver Santana Moss enjoyed a career day for the Redskins in a disappointing 24-17 loss to divisional rival Philadelphia. Moss became just the 40th player in league history to eclipse 10,000 career receiving yards on a 28-yard catch in the fourth quarter. #ProCanes now account for three of the seven active players that have reached the milestone, with no other school boasting more than one active player that has accomplished the feat. Now in his 13th season, Moss has 290 receiving yards on 23 catches through Week 11.

TheUFootball.com #ProCanes Interview: Greg Olsen
(interview conducted by Max Strauss)
HurricaneSports.com: Are there former Hurricanes teammates that you are still close with and speak with regularly? If so, who are they?
Greg Olsen: “There are guys that I see every weekend. A lot of teams have some guys that I played with during my time at Miami. Jon Beason has been with me the last couple of years here, and obviously he was traded up to New York, but we came in as freshmen together and got drafted together. I’ve known him for a long time. Guys that go to Miami typically stay close and keep in touch.”
HS.com: What does it mean to be a part of #NFLU?
GO: “I think there is something special that is playing at Miami. I think there is a certain stigma. I hopefully think this is us coming back. There is something special about playing there because it’s not easy and it is not a school that everyone can play at. Competition is very high, the expectations are very high, but they produce a lot of good players even in our down years. Look across the league and there are plenty of people from Miami making their mark in the NFL. I think obviously the first round record that we had for a while speaks for itself. With the amount of guys who have been to the Pro Bowl, the amount of guys on NFL rosters, is really unmatched.”
HS.com: Along with a number of great players – Bubba Franks, Jeremy Shockey, Jimmy Graham – what does #TightEndU mean to you?
GO: “Yeah. I mean we really started it. We really started a tradition of top tier tight ends both in college and going o to the NFL. It started with guys like Bubba Franks, and then Jeremy Shockey, and then Kellen Winslow, then Kevin Everett who’s unfortunately career ended short, but a heck of an athlete up in Buffalo. Then I followed him, then Jimmy Graham, Richard Gordon, Dedrick Epps, and you look around it’s pretty amazing at the line of guys that we have had.”
HS.com: Do you have any favorite memories from your time as a Hurricane?
GO: “I think the one that sticks out is the one we beat Virginia Tech in a prime time game up in Blacksburg. We were both ranked in the Top 5. I think they were #3 and we were #5, and we went on to beat them pretty handily. That was 2005.
“Obviously, my first game I ever played my redshirt freshman year. It was a Labor Day night game against FSU. We went into overtime and Frank Gore popped a run and we beat them at home in the Orange Bowl.”
