Hurricanes Extend Partnership with Verizon
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami Department of Athletics and Verizon announced the continuation of its integrated corporate partnership, effective for the 2013-14 athletics season. The renewal allows Verizon to continue its exclusivity as the official wireless provider of UM Athletics.
Verizon will also receive a fully integrated benefits program across all sports, including an emphasis on new opportunities that further engage the two brands, providing greater access to the Hurricanes’ fan base.
In addition to continuing its traditional benefits – including the use of the university’s mark and logo, permanent venue signage, tickets, displays and hospitality – one of the main initiatives of the new agreement is to explore technology programs that showcase Verizon’s leading edge services and features that leverage Miami’s nationally-acclaimed social and digital media platforms.
This emphasis will include the use of new technology and devices by Hurricanes coaches, administrators and spectators. UM Athletics will utilize Verizon technology to create a more intimate communication with its fan base, enhance the game experience, as well as pre-and post-game communication outreach.
“Verizon is a tremendous partner of ours and has played an integral role in the success of Miami Hurricanes Athletics,” said Blake James, Miami Director of Athletics. “With new technology and devices from Verizon, our coaches and administrators can continue to be some of the most connected and technologically advanced in the nation. We are excited to continue our partnership with Verizon.”
“The role of wireless technology in college sports, from the way teams prepare to actually broadcasting games, is evolving quickly,” said Jay Lockhart, Associate Director of Marketing for Verizon Wireless. “Verizon is excited about our continued role in supporting UM Athletics and helping to improve the college sports experience for ‘Canes fans around the world.”
Verizon’s initial partnership and current extension was secured by Hurricane Sports Properties, the multimedia rights holder of University of Miami Athletics and a joint venture of Learfield Sports and IMG College.
