MTen Continues Play At ITA Championships
TULSA, Okla. – Mario Rincon’s Miami Hurricanes squad competed in the doubles bracket Tuesday at the 2013 Saint Francis ITA Men’s All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
“Our guys enjoyed being together on the road this weekend for our first road trip of the year,” said Coach Rincon. “Diego, William, Wilfredo and Omar competed very hard, and it was a great experience for them playing in Tulsa. They had to deal with playing matches early in the day, late at night, indoors and outdoors.”
The Omar Aly-Wilfredo Gonzalez and William Albanese-Diego Soto duos made their first appearance of the young 2013 season.
Aly and Gonzalez, the elder statesmen of the men’s tennis program, lost a heartbreaker in the first round of the doubles qualifying bracket. The duo managed to push their opening round match to the brink but ultimately lost to the UTSA Diogo Casa-Yannick Junger combo, 8-7 (9).
Albanese and Soto, who have also participated in the singles bracket at the championship, fell 8-3 in their qualifying doubles match. The duo, defeated by LSU’s Andrew Korinek-Tam Trinh pairing, will return to Coral Gables to prepare for the ITA Regional Championships in Atlanta, Ga., Oct. 11-15.
“Every player on our team will get to play our Regional tournament in Georgia, and I’m looking forward to seeing their progress in the next few weeks,” added Rincon.
