Miami XC Excels at Charlotte Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of Miami cross country program wrapped up their first meet outside of the State of Florida this season, running the Charlotte Invitational.

The Hurricanes had 13 student-athletes compete in Charlotte, running seven in the men’s 8000m race and six in the women’s 6000m race at McAlpine Creek Park.

Lindsi Arrington was Miami’s top finisher on the women’s side, placing 12th with a time of 21:52.2. But it was seniors Alaine Tate (22:15.3) and Brooke Dovell (23:23.3), as well as junior Taylor Votek (23:49.6), who stood out for Miami distance coach Damon Griffiths.

“The women has their best outing of the season, so far,” Damon Griffiths said. “Alaine ran a new personal-best for 6k and Brooke and Taylor had season-best marks. Lindsi led the women, again, but I feel she left a lot on the course today.”

Miami’s men were without senior Sean Pezzulo, but the Canes still put together a strong performance with five runners finishing in the Top 100 of a 198-runner field.

JaCee Jarnagin led the Hurricanes, finishing sixth with a time of 25:32.1. While seniors Luke Fontaine (25:51.4), Connor Adams (26:07.3) and Jonas Frenzel (26:35.8) also impressed.

“The men had a good team showing, even without our top runner,” Griffiths said. “JaCee had another personal-best outing and both Connor and Jonas ran strong races for us today.”

The men finished sixth with 204 points, while the women placed eighth with 221 points.  Griffiths wants to see his runners continue to develop as they prepare for the conference meet on November 1.

“With a little over a month before conference, we need improvement from everyone to reach our goals,” Griffiths said.
