Rincon and Gonzalez talk to Radio Caracol
At halftime of the Miami-Florida football game, Canes men’s tennis coach Mario Rincon and junior Wilfredo Gonzalez spoke with Joe Martinez of Radio Caracol.
Listen to the entire interview in Spanish here.
Rincon talked about the high expectations this season since they have three seniors in Omar Aly, Diego Soto and Gabriel Flores, who will surely play their best tennis of their career. Gonzalez, who was also at the interview, is a very strong player from Guatemala who continues to get better every year.
They also discussed what preseason tournaments they have this season as well as how long their regular season will last.
Rincon explained that in the fall there are four tournaments starting with an event in Tallahassee, then in Tulsa, Okla., as well as Los Angeles and finishing off in Fort Meyers at Florida Gulf Coast University. The regular spring season debuts Jan. 11 against Liberty University, and they will end up playing a total of 22 matches throughout their season.
Radio Caracol moved on to speaking with Wilfredo Gonzalez about his own expectations for the year. Gonzalez said that last year he was playing in the No. 1 position in doubles and in singles he would fluctuate between Nos. 2 and 3 but his goal for this season was to get to No. 1 and maintain that position throughout the season.
