Dave Sanderson Named Miami Rowing HC
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After a comprehensive search, the University of Miami has named Dave Sanderson as its head rowing coach.
Sanderson, a native of Providence, R.I. and a Yale University graduate, returns to the Hurricanes’ program after spending a year as an assistant coach at Miami under Debra Morgan in 2006.
“I am excited to have David back with the U family,” Miami Sr. Associate AD for Facilities & Event Operations Tim Wise said. “He is an established and successful head coach and will be a great fit for our program and student-athletes. I look forward to working with David and him continuing to move the program forward.”
Following his year with the Canes, Sanderson accepted the head coaching position at Barry University in 2007. The accomplished coach guided the Buccaneers for six seasons and lead Barry to three straight NCAA Championships, but Sanderson is excited about the opportunity to return to Miami.
“I am extremely honored to be the next head coach of the University of Miami women’s rowing program,” Sanderson said. “It has been fantastic to watch the team progress over the last few years and I look forward to continuing that trend to the next level. I am really looking forward to meeting the student-athletes and getting them out on the water taking strokes. I am sure they are eager to get on the water, too. I really appreciate getting this opportunity and I can’t wait to get started.”
Prior to his first stint at the University of Miami, Sanderson served as an assistant varsity coach for Boston University men’s crew for three years and as a coach at Community Rowing in Newton, Mass. While with the Boston University Terriers, Sanderson helped the program achieve its best-ever result at the 2005 IRA National Championships with a sixth-place finish.
Sanderson rowed at Yale as a member of three varsity lightweight crews while earning his bachelor’s degree in American studies in 1998. As part of his lightweight crews, Sanderson won two bronze medals and a silver medal at Eastern Sprints, as well as a silver at the IRA National Championship regatta.
