Four Canes on Senior Bowl Watch List
MOBILE, Ala. – Four Miami Hurricanes, led by senior QB Stephen Morris, were named to the 2014 Senior Bowl preseason watch list. The 65th Senior Bowl game will be played will Jan. 25, 2014, at Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium on NFL Network.
Morris, senior offensive guard Brandon Linder, senior offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson and senior defensive end David Gilbert represented the Hurricanes on the 400-player watch list.
“Last year, the inaugural Senior Bowl watch list included 312 prospects with 94 total players ultimately being drafted from our game,” said Phil Savage, Senior Bowl Executive Director. “With 60,000-plus athletes playing college football, and only 250 or so NFL draft choices each year, we believe there is some legitimate prestige with being placed on our ‘official’ watch list.”
Morris has been named to four preseason watch lists – Davey O’Brien Award, Maxwell Award, Manning Award and Senior Bowl – as well as being an Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominee. Morris started all 12 games under center a season ago, throwing for a career-best 3,345 yards and 21 touchdowns. His 3,345 passing yards in 2012 were the fifth-most in program history, while his 3,415 yards of total offense set a new single-season mark at Miami. He also became the first QB in Miami Hurricanes history to post multiple 400-yard passing games in a single season.
Linder, a senior offensive guard, is one of Miami’s two Preseason All-ACC selections and was named to the Outland Trophy watch list in July. He started all 12 games at right guard for the Hurricanes in 2012, earning All-ACC honorable mention from ACSMA and the league coaches. He helped anchor an offensive line that paved the way for the ACC’s third-best passing offense (295.4) and fifth-best total offense (440.2) last season.
Henderson, an All-ACC honorable mention by ACSMA and the league coaches, played 11 games along the offensive line in 2012, starting the final seven games at right tackle.
After spending four seasons at Wisconsin, Gilbert transferred to Miami in August. A 2012 honorable mention All-Big Ten defensive lineman, he is slated to compete at the “rush” position for the 2013 Hurricanes defense. The 6-foot-4, 247-pound product from Coral Springs, Fla., recorded 42 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks in 14 games (13 starts) as a redshirt junior in 2012 for the Badgers.
