Akpejiori Continues Athletes In Action Tour
KINGSTON, Ja. — Miami Hurricanes senior forward Raphael Akpejiori, currently competing for Athletes in Action, finished the second of a three game tour in Jamaica. The 6-foot-10 forward contributed to a 68-45 victory over the Jamaican NBL All-Star Team, pushing the AIA squad to 2-0 on its tour.
After falling behind 19-11, Athletes in Action fought back to take a three-point halftime lead. The second half proved to be less of a struggle as the team went on a 28-8 run to close out the game.
Akpejiori finished the game with six points, shooting 50 percent from the field. He also added eight rebounds and two blocks.
According to AIA’s mission statement, the team’s goal is to, “share the message of Jesus Christ using the influence of basketball.” The organization, which has been functioning for over 25 years, promotes international trips with players from all around the world.
AIA will again play the Jamaican NBL All-Star Team on Wednesday night in Kingston. Following the game, AIA will travel to Montego Bay, where they will play a two-game series against the Jamaican Senior National Team. The games will be played Friday and Saturday
Akpejiori played in 18 games for the Hurricanes during the 2012-13 season. He averaged 0.6 points and 1.0 rebound in 4.5 minutes per game.
