#CANESCAMP NOTES

  • #100Days Countdown to Kickoff: 26 days (Miami opens 2013 season Aug. 30 vs. FAU at 8 p.m. on ESPNU)
  • Sunday was the second of the NCAA-mandated 5-day acclamation before full pads are allowed.
  • Senior OT Seantrel Henderson wore a yellow jersey (limited contact) during Sunday’s practice. Coach Golden stated Henderson turned his ankle Saturday.
  • Sophomore DB Deon Bush was still wearing a red non-contact jersey Sunday.
  • Dallas Crawford, Antonio Crawford, Duke Johnson, Artie Burns, Stacy Coley and Phillip Dorsett worked on kickoff returns at the start of practice on the special teams field.
  • Defense won all three skeleton drills against the offense Sunday morning.
  • Former RB Charlie Jones attended practice Sunday. Jones played for the Canes from 2004-07.
  • In 1-on-1s during the second half of practice, freshman WR Stacey Coley hauled in an acrobatic catch over Artie Burns along the left sideline.
  • WR Rayshawn Scott had a really nice stutter step-and-go on Tracy Howard in 1-on-1s.
  • Howard then ended practice with an interception of senior QB Stephen Morris, who was rolling out of the pocket.

QUOTABLES
Al Golden on thoughts following first #CanesCamp practice Saturday
“We got a lot done. They’re in good shape. It obviously allows you to do more. Greater capacity to work. (Saturday) was a good start. Clearly a lot of guys did a lot of work over the summer and a lot of freshmen studied so it was good to see them out there as well because it shows their prepared and want an opportunity to play.”

James Coley on Morris’ progress…
“He’s doing a great job. He has to continue to work and get better. But he’s doing great job so far. He’s had a good summer.”

Coley on pressure…
“There are two types of pressure in the world: those you feel and those you apply.”

Coley on Eduardo Clements
“He’s versatile. He gives you the stuff Dallas (Crawford) gives you as well because he’s so smart. He understands football. He’s a good athlete and a good guy that instinctively takes over when he’s on the field. He knows what the other side is doing on defense because he’s so bright.”

Tracy Howard on the receivers…
“I think we probably have one of the best receivers groups in the country. Going against these guys every day, I know we’re going to be prepared. We’re very blessed to have the receiver group we have. I like competing with those guys every day. It’s only going to make us better.”
