Dickson-Led USTA Team To Face Texas On Monday

URBANA, Ill. – Through two days of tournament play, Mark Dickson’s USTA Florida Championship team is 1-1 at the 2013 USTA Boys 18 National Team Championship. The split gives the team an opportunity to play for a top five finish when the tournament ends on Tuesday.

In the team’s first match, Dickson’s squad defeated the Mid-Atlantic section 4-3. The Florida sectional team dominated singles competition before the Mid-Atlantic made a doubles push. The deficit, however, was too much to overcome as Florida advanced to a Sunday matchup with the Southern region.

The Sunday matchup started and ended similarly to Saturday, just with different results. After splitting the first two singles matches, the Southern region took a two-match lead over the next four matches. With a doubles sweep, the Southern region took the advantage and the eventual win, sending Dickson’s Florida team to a Monday showdown with the Texas region.

Dickson’s Florida team will face off Monday against the Texas regional team at 3 p.m. The winner will compete on Tuesday for a spot in the fifth place game.
