Dorman Qualifies for Semis at World Games
KAZAN, Russia – University of Miami diver Sam Dorman advanced to the semifinals of the 1-meter springboard at the World University Games Saturday.
Dorman, who qualified for Team USA alongside fellow Hurricane diver Zac Nees, scored 355.45 points to finish fifth in semifinal B and 10th overall in the event. Though he failed to earn a spot in Monday’s 1-meter final, Dorman continued a strong personal run at the 27th annual Games.
The Tempe, Ariz., native, who sat out the 2012-13 season while recovering from surgery, finished 21st in Friday’s 3-meter preliminaries. Dorman was in third place after two dives, but faltered on his third dive to drop to No. 21 halfway through the event. He finished with 328.75 points.
Nees, who ended Friday’s preliminaries at No. 23 in the 3-meter, finished 24th in Saturday’s 1-meter prelims with a score of 223.95. The Hatfield, Pa., native sat out the 2012-13 season after transferring from Indiana.
Dorman and Nees will team up for Team USA in the 3-meter synchronized springboard on the final day of diving competition. The event will take place Friday, July 12 with live coverage slated for ESPN3 at 4:00 a.m. (ET).
