B-Rad Named Louisville Slugger All-American

TUSCON, Ariz. — Junior ace Bryan Radziewski was named to the Louisville Slugger All-America Second Team Thursday, as announced by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

Radziewski, who was also selected to the 2013 All-ACC First Team, ended the regular season rated among the conference leaders in nearly every statistical category. The Miami, Fla., native ranks second in ERA (1.49), tied for third in wins (nine), tied for second in complete games (two), third in strikeouts (101) and first in batting average against (.174).

After missing nearly all of 2012 due to season-ending shoulder surgery, Radziewski made a dazzling return to the weekend rotation in a March 23 shutout of then-No. 24 Virginia Tech. The southpaw struck out 16 Hokie batters, just three shy of the single-game conference record, and earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors for his first career complete game. The outing marked the second of three double-digit strikeout performances this season.

The southpaw helped guide the Hurricanes to a 7-0 win over No. 18 Clemson last time out during the team’s 2013 ACC Baseball Championship finale. Radziewski threw eight shutout innings, scattering four hits and striking out five. With the win, Radziewski improved to 9-2 on the season.

Radziewski is one of just three starters in the conference averaging over 10 strikeouts per nine innings (10.74), and has set a new career high with 101 punchouts this season. The former Baseball America Freshman All-American has recorded 209 strikeouts over 34 career starts, and now boasts a 20-4 all-time record and career ERA of 2.54.

The second-seeded Hurricanes will open their postseason run at the Louisville Regional Friday with a match-up against third-seeded Oklahoma State. First pitch for the contest, slated for live coverage on ESPN3, is set for 2 p.m. from Jim Patterson Stadium.
