URowing Graduates 4 Student-Athletes in 2013
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Four members of the Hurricanes rowing program earned their undergraduate degrees from the University of Miami.
Katalin Horvath, Caitlin Morrison, Maria Siemann and Katie Stanzilis received their diplomas Friday during Spring Commencement exercises at the BankUnited Center.
Horvath graduated from the University of Miami School of Marine Science. She was recruited from Hungary and has been rowing for 11 years. The senior has spent the past four years rowing for the Miami Varsity. Although a decorated small-boat and sculling athlete, Horvath has been racing in the Varsity 8+ at Miami since her freshman year. Horvath strokes the V8+ and has filled that role since fall of 2012. Horvath earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and marine science with a minor in chemistry. Following graduation, she plans to return to Hungary and pursue her interests in veterinary school this summer.
Morrison graduated from the University of Miami College of Arts and Sciences. The Tampa, Fla., native majored in physical therapy and stage management and is set to begin her career in stage management following her graduation from Miami.
Siemann graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the School of Education. The Millstone, N.J., native coxed the Varsity 8+ to a fourth place finish at the 2011 ACC Championships. She also led them to a sixth-place finish at the Knecht Cup as a junior.
Stanzilis completed her requirements for her bachelor’s degree in mathematics in December, but she walked across the stage to collect her diploma Friday. The Miami native rowed for three years with the Canes and currently sits in the bow of the second Varsity 8+ boat. She began her career as a walk-on novice and has advanced to Varsity. Stanzilis was the bow seat of the Varsity 8+ in the 2012 spring season. She plans to enroll in graduate school in the fall.
