No. 55 MTennis Closes Schedule with No. 1 UVA

The Particulars

The No. 55 University of Miami men’s tennis team will honor its lone senior player, Victor Mauz, as it concludes its 2013 regular season schedule with a match against top-ranked Virginia on Sunday, April 21 at 11 a.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

Senior Day

Senior Victor Mauz will play in his final home match on Sunday. In recognition of Mauz, head coach Mario Rincon and assistant head coach Mark Dickson will speak to the crowd during intermission about his career and thier many experiences coaching him.

Playing Strong at Home

Despite its tough loss to No. 52 Virginia Tech on Friday, the Hurricanes still own an impressive 10-3 mark in home matches this season.  In fact, Miami owns wins against some of the nation’s best, including then-No. 50 Rice, No. 58 Minnesota and No. 63 Georgia Tech.

Sophomore Wilfredo Gonzalez has been dominant at home all season.  The Guatemala City, Guatemala native has posted a near-perfect 10-1 dual singles record at home this season.

Freshman standout William Albanese and junior Gabriel Flores have also found success at home. Albanese has played to a 9-3 dual singles record at home while Flores has marked an 8-3 record.

Scouting the Cavaliers

The Cavaliers (20-0, 9-0 ACC) have been consistently ranked as the nation’s best team all season.  With its 7-0 sweep over No. 30 Florida State in its last action, Virginia has clinched a share of the ACC regular season title for a 10th consecutive time.

Virginia has six players ranked in the singles standings, including the No.1 and No. 2 players in Jarmere Jenkins and Alex Domijan, respectively.  Max Styslinger is 23rd while Mitchell Frank holds the 36th spot. Ryan Shane and Harrison Richmond round out the rankings at 58th and 76th, respectively.

The Cavaliers also have three teams ranked in doubles. Jenkins and Styslinger partner for the nation’s top-ranked doubles tandem. Domijan and Richmond are 20th while Shane and Julen Uriguen hold the 75th spot in the ITA rankings.
