WoMen's Track Earns ACC Academic Honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three members of the University of Miami women’s track and field program were named to the 2013 All-ACC Academic Team for Indoor Track and Field.
Linsdi Arrington, Jamika Glades and Lea Johnson each earned a spot among the conference’s brightest student-athletes. The women’s All-ACC Academic Team consisted of 46 student-athletes, with at least one honoree coming from each of the conference’s 12 member institutions. To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
“We are extremely proud of these student-athletes that have excelled not only on the track, but in the classroom,” said Amy Deem, Miami’s director of track & field and cross country. “The ability to balance academics and athletics is the first step in achieving success in life.”
Arrington, a junior distance runner, had a strong showing during the 2013 indoor season. The Woodbridge, Va., native placed eighth overall in the woman’s mile final at the ACC Indoor Championships with a time of 4:54.95. Arrington also ran the women’s 3000m at the ACC Indoor Championships, posting a time of 10:17.42. A motion pictures & creative writing major, Arrington has earned a 3.825 GPA while excelling for both the Miami track and cross country programs.
Glades, a freshman hurdler, has made a smooth transition to collegiate academics and athletics. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native posted her best times of the indoor season at the ACC Indoor Championships. Running the 60m hurdles in 8.52 seconds and the 400m dash in 56.14 seconds. An accounting major, Glades has earned a 3.756 GPA and been a key contributor on the track in her first season in Coral Gables.
Johnson, a sophomore thrower, shined in her first season of indoor competition. The St. Louis, Mo., native peaked at the ACC Indoor Championships, posting an impressive mark of 61’10.50″ to place fourth in the women’s weight throw. A microbiology & immunology major, Johnson sports a 3.961 GPA and continues to improve on a weekly basis for the Hurricanes.
Arrington, Glades and Johnson join Megan Novinger (2009-11), Kristy Whyte (2009-10) Miranda Wilson (2010-12) and Alyssa McClure (2011) as Hurricanes who have earned All-ACC Academic honors for women’s indoor track & field.
