John Geraghty (1977)
Coral Gables, Fla. – Described as scrappy fighter who brings fond memories back to Coach Dale Lewisof Mickey Schad, the former No. 2 player on the Hurricane squad which finished second in the 1965 NCAA tournament, John Geraghty returned to his home state of Florida after transferring from Appalachian State. Geraghty, a local kid from Hialeah, attended Ransom High where he was both an All-City and All-County player. In 1973, Geraghty received the schools Most Valuable Player award and won the Florida State Clay Court Championship. In 1974, he became a two-time Florida State Clay Court Champion. While attending Ransom, Geraghty held down the No. 2 ranking in Florida and No. 11 national ranking in junior play.
After sitting out the 1976 season, Geraghty began his Hurricane career with six straight singles victories and compiled an overall record of 19-5. Teaming with All-American John Eagleton, Geraghty opened doubles play with an 18-1 record and 23-3 overall record. Geraghty and Eagleton advanced to the quarterfinals of the 1977 NCAA tournament. For his accomplishments on the court, Geraghty was selected to the 1977 All-American team. As capitan of the 1978 Hurricane team, Geraghty posted an overall record of 15-5 in singles play and 14-4 in doubles competition.
