SKILLMAN, N.J. – Even after an off week, the University of Miami women’s tennis team was able to move up one spot to No. 10 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national team rankings.
After a 13-day break, the Hurricanes will play on back-to-back days on the road. The women will head to the Lone Star State to face No. 22 Texas on Friday and No. 29 Baylor on Saturday. The matches will begin at 2 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
The Canes have already competed against the Longhorns having faced them in January as part of the inaugural Miami Spring Invite. Of the seven singles matches played against one another, Miami won four, with wins coming from Stephanie Wagner, Clementina Riobueno, Deborah Suarez and Brittany Dubins.
The Hurricanes also collected two of three double matches. The duo of Lina Lileikite and Wagner as well as Dubins and Kelsey Laurente each claimed victories.
Miami last faced Baylor last season, claiming a 6-1 victory in Coral Gables.
New individual and doubles rankings will be announced next week. Laurente (No. 81), Wagner (No. 100) and Riobueno (No. 116) hold steady in the singles rankings, while the teams of Lileikite and Wagner (No. 48), Melissa Bolivar and Riobueno (No. 69) and Laurente and Dubins (No. 73) each remain the same in doubles.
Miami returns home on March 27 for a match against Brown.
