Coaches Vote Miami's Scott ACC Defensive POY

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Miami senior Durand Scott has been voted the Atlantic CoastConference Basketball Defensive Player of the Year by the league’s 12 head coaches.

The coaches, who were notallowed to vote for their own players and cast their ballots before last week’sACC Tournament, chose Scott in a tight vote. Scott received three votes to edgeVirginia guard Jontel Evans, who received two. Seven other players received onevote each.

The 6-foot-5 Scott, a native ofthe Bronx, N.Y., has usually been called upon to be the lockdown defender for aHurricane unit that has allowed just 60.7 points per game while forcingopponents to shoot a shade under 40 percent from the floor.

Scott, who ranks third amongACC players with 1.6 steals per game, was also named the 2013 ACC DefensivePlayer of the Year by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media and was named to the 2013Coaches All-ACC Defensive Team on Monday.

The senior was selected as theconference’s top defender, but two of his teammates also garnered someattention. Senior big men Julian Gamble and Kenny Kadji each received a votefor ACC Defensive Player of the Year, making them two of the seven players whotied for third in votes.
