Four Canes Earn ACC All-Tournament Honors
GREENSBORO,N.C. – TheUniversity of Miami men’s basketball program secured its first ACC tournamentchampionship in school history with an 87-77 victory over North Carolina.
Following their run to the top of the ACC,four Hurricanes were selected to the ACC All-Tournament Team. Guards ShaneLarkin and Durand Scott were named first team All-Tournament, while centerJulian Gamble and forward Trey McKinney Jones garnered second team selections. Inaddition to being selected to the first team, Larkin was named the ACCTournament MVP.
Larkin dazzled throughout Miami’s three-gamerun to the ACC tournament championship. The sophomore guard averaged 23.6points per game in the tournament, leading Miami to wins over Boston College,NC State and North Carolina. His 28 points and seven assists in Sunday’schampionship game were pivotal in Miami’s win.
Scott was a key leader for the Hurricanesall season and that continued in the ACC tournament. The senior led Miami in asemifinal win over NC State, scoring a game-high 32 points. An excellentdefender, Scott also had at least one steal in each of Miami’s three tournamentgames.
McKinney Jones scored in double figures intwo of Miami’s three games, dropping 12 points against Boston College and 20against North Carolina. The senior was especially impressive in the championshipmatch-up against UNC, adding three steals and connecting on six of his nine 3-pointattempts.
Gamble has been solid all season for Miamiand he continued that in the ACC tournament. The senior did a little bit ofeverything, scoring double figures twice, pulling down a game-high 10 reboundsin the championship game and blocking five shots over Miami’s three tournamentgames.
