The Games
The Miami Hurricanes will open a six-game homestand Tuesday when visiting Columbia University arrives for a midweek set. First pitch for both games is set for 6 p.m. from Alex Rodriguez Park.

The Coach
Jim Morris is in his 34th season as a head coach and 20th with the Miami Hurricanes. He has a 1,500-636-4 (.702) career record, including a 865-328-3 mark at Miami, where he has guided the team to two National Championships (1999, 2001).

 

HOME SWEET HOME…
• After dropping its weekend series with No. 1 North Carolina on the road, the Miami Hurricanes will open up a six-game homestand Tuesday with a midweek set against visiting Columbia.
• The Hurricanes boast an impressive 12-3 record inside the friendly confines of Alex Rodriguez Park, including a 5-1 mark in midweek contests played in Coral Gables.
• Miami is hitting an impressive .296 as a team at home, led by junior Brad Fieger (.408, 15 RBI’s), junior Alex Hernandez (.373, 14 runs) and senior Alex San Juan (.357, seven RBI’s).
• Southpaw Bryan Radziewski, slated to start Wednesday’s game two, has a 19:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his three starts at A-Rod Park this season. 


HEATING UP…
• Senior Alex San Juan is hitting a team-best .462 over the past five games, and reached base seven times against UNC – the most of any player.
• Since being inserted into the starting lineup March 10, freshman Christopher Barr has team-best totals of eight hits, eight walks and seven runs scored over a span of six games.
• Senior reliever Eric Nedeljkovic has not allowed a run in nine appearances this season, and has struck out 12 batters in 11.1 innings. 


QUALITY AND QUANTITY…
• Head coach Jim Morris and his staff have received nine quality starts from their pitching staff in 22 games this season.
• Sophomore Andrew Suarez delivered back-to-back quality starts against Duke (March 10) and UNC (March 17), and ranks 17th in the ACC with a 2.73 ERA.
• Freshman LHP Thomas Woodrey went eight innings against Maine in his most recent midweek start (March 5), the deepest any pitcher has gone this season.
• Sophomore LHP Chris Diaz has delivered four quality startsin five opportunities in 2013, and tied a career-best with seven innings in a series-opening win over No. 1 UNC (March 15).


SCOUTING THE LIONS…
• Columbia is off to a slow start in 2013, with a record of only 2-8 through its first 10 games.
• Though the Lions’ season mark is under. 500, their two wins came over reigning national champions Arizona (March 9, 8-4) and this past weekend against UCF (March 16, 5-4).
• Offensively, Columbia is powered by junior infielder Aaron Silbar (.333 AVG, 12 hits), senior Alex Black (.273, six RBI’s) and junior Jordan Serena (10 runs scored, four doubles).
• On the hill, Columbia has been led starters David Speer (3.50 ERA) and senior Tim Giel (team-best 16 strikeouts).
