Larkin, Kadji, Scott & Gamble Earn ACC Honors
CORALGABLES, Fla. – Fresh off their ACC tournament title,several players from the University of Miami men’s basketball team were honoredas standouts in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Shane Larkin, Kenny Kadji and Durand Scotteach earned a spot on the inaugural Coaches All-ACC Basketball Team announcedon Monday. Larkin, Scott and Julian Gamble were also named to the All-ACCDefensive Team. The selections are based on the result of a vote from theconference’s 12 coaches. Coaches could not vote for their own players andballots were received prior to the ACC Tournament.
Larkin was named first team All-ACC after anoutstanding sophomore season in which he led Miami in scoring, assists, stealsand 3-point percentage over 30 regular season games. He received 10 of apossible 11 first place votes for All-ACC balloting. The Orlando, Fla., native’sdefensive prowess was impressive, recording a steal in 26 games this season, including 20 straight games fromNov. 13 through Feb. 5. Larkin, who was named first team All-ACC and to theAll-ACC Defensive Team by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA)following the conclusion of the regular season, is a finalist for the CousyAward and the Wooden Award. He has been named an All-American by The Sporting News and earnedAll-District honors from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.
Kadji earnedsecond team All-ACC honors after playing a vital role for the Hurricanes thisseason. The 6-foot-11 forward led Miami in rebounding, pulling down 206 boardsover 30 regular season games. He also was second on the team in scoring, blocksand 3-point percentage. The senior from Cameroon elevated his game inconference play, leading Miami in scoring, rebounding and 3-point percentage.Kadji also had some memorable performances, including a game-winning 3-pointerFeb. 17 at Clemson and a career-high 23 points to clinch the ACC regular-seasontitle March 9 on Senior Day. He was named second team All-ACC by theASCMA following the conclusion of the regular season.
Scott’s impact onthe floor this season was recognized by the conference coaches as they namedthe senior third team All-ACC. Scott, who was named the ACC Defensive Player ofthe Year by the ASCMA following the conclusion of the regular season, isconsidered Miami’s best on-ball defender. The Bronx, N.Y., native used his6-foot-5 frame to lock down guards and wings all season. Scott had at least onesteal in 22 of his 27 games this season and collected multiple steals in 15games this year. In 27 regular season games, Scott collected 44 total stealsand three blocks, while averaging 12.9 points per game. He was namedAll-ACC honorable mention by the ASCMA.
Gamble was animpact player that often did not receive the recognition he deserved thisseason. The senior filled in for an injured Reggie Johnson late in December andhelped guide Miami to an ACC regular season title and an ACC tournamentchampionship. Gamble averaged 6.6 points per game during the regular season,but made a huge impact on defense. The Durham, N.C., native led the Hurricanesin blocks (54) and ranked fourth in steals (13) over 30 regular season games.
