Hurricanes Stay Perfect

• The Hurricanesused a sweep of visiting Milwaukee to stay perfect in 2013, moving to a flawless 7-0 through the first two weekendsof the regular season.

• Miami’s record of 7-0marks the second consecutive year the team has opened with   seven straight wins. The Hurricanes were 8-0to start their 2012 campaign before falling  tothe Gators on March 2, the team’s first loss of the season.

• Miami is one of onlyfour teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference boasting a flawless   record; the others are Florida State (7-0),Virginia (7-0) and North Carolina (6-0).

MovingOn Up

•After their 4-0 week, the Hurricanes entered the USA Today Coaches’Poll for the first time in2013. Miami broke into the rankings released Monday at No. 21.

• Miami moved up two spotsin the weekly NCBWA Poll, jumping from No. 23 to No. 21.

• The Hurricanes stayedput at No. 20 in the CollegiateBaseball pollreleased Monday.  They made an eight-spotjump in the Feb. 18 poll, moving from their preseason rank of No. 28 up to No. 20. 

FreshmanPhenom

•Freshman David Thompson has played a key role in Miami’s early success, ranking        first on the team and tied for second inthe conference with 13 RBI’s.

• The Miami, Fla., nativeconnected for Miami’s first homerun of the season on the road at FAU, a two-run shot that tiedthe game up at 4-4 in the eighth inning.

• Thompson connected forfive doubles and six RBI’s in the team’s sweep of Milwaukee. He ranks ninth in the ACC in slugging percentage at.739.

StartingOff Strong

• Forthe second consecutive weekend, Miami’s starting rotation, missing some of its key contributors, played a big role in theteam’s success. .

• LHP Chris Diaz, RHP JaviSalas and LHP Andrew Suarez combined to allow only threeearned runs in Miami’s sweep.

• To date, the team’sweekend rotation has allowed only three earned runs in 33.2 innings pitched,good for a miniscule 0.80 ERA. As a staff, Miami ranks second in the Atlantic Coast Conference with ateam ERA of 1.71.
