T&F Starts Strong at ACC Indoors

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Alaine Tate has been waiting for herbreakout performance.

The juniortransfer finally had the performance she was working for, and she did it on abig stage. Tate advanced to the women’s 800m final by finishing the race in2:06.09, setting a new school record.

Tate ledMiami’s women in a very successful day at the ACC Indoor Championships. LikeTate, Taneisha Cordell also had success in the women’s 800m. The sophomorefinished in 2:09.77 to advance to the final and position herself fourth inMiami history.

Miami’s women had a lot of success in the running events. JuniorLindsi Arrington advanced to her first ACC final in the women’s mile with atime of 4:59.47.

Alyssa McClure advances to the finals of the woman’s 60m with atime of 7.46. The junior also qualified for the final in the women’s 200m witha time of 24.27 seconds.

Freshman Jamika Glades qualified for the women’s 60m hurdles witha time of 8.52. Glades and sophomore Shannon Wright each ran season-bests inthe women’s 400m. Glades finished in 56.14 seconds while Wright posted a timeof 56.48 seconds.

Sophomore Jokira Jiles qualified for the final in the women’s 200mby posting a time of 24.52 seconds in her preliminary heat.

The women also had a strong showing in the field events. SophomoreLea Johnson placed fourth overall in her first ACC weight throw competitionwith a mark of 61’10.50″.

Freshman Dakota Dailey-Harris finished eighth overall in thewoman’s high jump with a mark of 5’8″, while junior Nicole Cummings and seniorSamantha Williams both advanced to the long jump finals.

A pair of Texas natives led the men’s team on Friday. SophomoreChristian Cook and freshman TeQuille Jackson each advanced to tomorrow’s 60mhurdles final. Cook finished fifth in preliminaries with a time of 8.01 secondsand Jackson was seventh, posting a time of 8.08 seconds.

Phillip Dorsett ran the men’s 200m in 21.75 seconds. The sophomorefinished ninth in preliminaries, missing the final by .12 seconds.

The third day of the ACC Indoor Championships is all about thefinals. The field events kick off at 11 a.m. with the women’s shot put whilethe women’s mile run opens running events at noon.
